Marina Medrano, a native of El Salvador, raised her sons as a single mother here in Florissant, MO. She worked in the personnel office for Ferguson Florissant Schools for many years. She has always had a passion for reaching the lost. After looking for a church to attend on a Sunday night, she was going through the phone book and noticed that New Life Baptist Church (Now Have Bible Will Travel’s North campus) had the same final four digits as her birthday, so she called. She quickly became a fixture at New Life in the Summer of 2004. In the summer of 2005 she felt a call to return to the people of El Salvador with the gospel of Christ. We began supporting her in 2006 by buying them a video projector before we even owned one at our church. In 2007, then Pastor Jim Goforth made his first of several mission trips to El Salvador. In 2010, Pastor Jim, his son, Bryan and Tom Kennedy made a trip that included a soccer outreach and the building of a pulpit for the new mission in Las Tablas. Recently, we were blessed to take 6 members from our church: Pastor Ron Boyer, Ruby Boyer, Kathy Diehl, Marge Forrest, Rebecca Kennedy, Tom Kennedy plus Alan Earls of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Russellville, MO.
The El Salvador mission work has connections with the Tabernaculo Biblico Bautisto in San Salvador, the largest of the three Baptist Groups in El
Salvador. Ministry has expanded in her work to 8 villages. Marina has studied at the National University in El Salvador, including taking some classes in Medical School there. She has studied at the College of Baptist Theology with the same church. Marina challenges us all by being the ‘real deal’ – meeting physical and spiritual needs, establishing relationships and sharing the love of Jesus with everyone she comes into contact with.
